Before You Buy on EBay
Learn How to Spot a Fake
While you can find some real treasure on eBay there is no doubt that that site is rife with scam artists and fraudsters. The whole Clothing section of eBay is riddled with scams because of the quite understandable desire of many style-conscious people who want to own genuine high-end brands but do not have the desire to pay the designers’ astronomical retail prices.
The pond scum who have leapt onto eBay with their fake products are like fleas sucking the life blood out of an otherwise hard-working hunting dog. What an excellent resource eBay should be. The ability to either sell off unwanted items or find those you not only want but have hankered for since last season’s style reports is addictive. One man’s trash is another’s treasure as they say.
But no sooner had this lively and fun marketplace got going than the parasites started crawling all over it. As I have said several times elsewhere on Shoppish, I think most designers are just plain greedy. The prices they charge are so far from reality that they really are just taking the mickey. So… I encourage you to buy designer brands at realistic prices but I do want you to do so safely. The following list of reports will help you judge the integrity of the seller and assess the quality of the item on sale. I strongly advise you to read a few of these before going Shoppish on eBay.
